We build awareness of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) by
our presence at community events. Over the last four years
we have completed some great strides:
- 34 heart screening events,
- screened over 4,400 young people using echocardiograms,
- donated 9 AED's (Automatic External Defibrillators) to schools in Arizona,
Kansas and North Carolina
- hosted 5 golf tournaments,
- placed 5 ads in high school football programs,
- participated in 2 AHA walk-a-thons,
- held 6 heart screening training events (5 in Phoenix, 1 in New Jersey),
- displayed 1 Pre-Screening Information Day the Manhattan, KS local mall,
- participated in 4 Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day Fairs,
- distributed over 4000 tapes/DVD of our video, "What is HCM?" to places all
over the world,
- 50+ compassionate parents have received "How to Run a Community Screening"
training material in the USA and Ireland
- done numerous presentations and public addresses for parent groups, school boards
and student groups,
- done numerous radio and TV interviews, and
- sent a few dozen cookies to Washington DC (in the name of awareness).
Education and Awareness is the first priority.
Saving Young Lives is the Bonus!

In April 2006 we had our second "How to Run a Heart Screening Event in Your Community" training event.
Sharon Schmidt, CO, Debra Masterson, NJ, Kathleen Gag, NJ, Micheal Mason, AZ, Allen Bates, KS, Shari Kramer, CA and Rachel
Moyer, PA were all learning about the community cardiac screening program through ABF. We were able to train people
at the Estrella Foothills High School heart screening event from these 6 states. Plus, we are able to offer our
materials to many more in Delaware, California, Texas, Florida, New York, and Washington.
As a result of our training, The Robie Foundation hosted their first FREE cardiac screening, October 20 - 21st in Sparta,
NJ. Over 500 young people were screened that weekend. Congratulations Debra Masterson & Kathleen Gag!
We have can share our process and program with your group.
